Ballet to the People had the pleasure of hanging out in the rehearsal studio, watching two principal ballerinas prepare for a very busy spring season at the Met. Both were marking their 20th anniversary with American Ballet Theatre. They also happen to be besties, though their journey to the pinnacle of the ballet world could not have been more different.
In an era where dancers are increasingly hopping from company to company (and sometimes attempting to straddle two companies) Gillian Murphy and Stella Abrera climbed to the top the old-fashioned way. I mused on the occasion for the spring Playbill:
